Join us for this critical educational event on "Infection Prevention for Healthcare Design & Construction Project Managers" presented by the Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering, ISHE. Note that this event has LIMITED SEATING.

Full details of this event are available at http://www.isheweb.org/infection-prevention-for-healthcare-design-construction-project-managers/ but a synopsis of the event is found below.

The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE), HepaCart, and Viega welcome you to a comprehensive and informative symposium for architect, engineering and healthcare professionals.

Proactively prevent the future risk of hospital acquired infections and illness and potential liability and litigation due to exposure to waterborne pathogens in our healthcare facilities during the most critical intervention: the planning, design and construction phases. Legionella is considered the new asbestos with lawyers across the US specializing in this field.

This course is designed for professionals directly involved in the planning, design, and construction of new health care facilities and projects. This program identifies the preventive measures, materials, and methods that every project manager, architect, engineer, contractor, and facilities manager contractor should assess and implement for a successful project.

While working in a health care environment, we all need to understand our unique role and be prepared to implement processes to protect patients, staff, and visitors from hospital-acquired infections and illness due to waterborne pathogens exposure. There are early measures that can be incorporated during the planning, design and construction phases that will have the largest impact on future infection risk reduction.

This program examines best practices in the design and construction of healthcare facilities.

Intended Audience

  • Contractors working in healthcare environments
  • Architects and Engineers designing healthcare facilities and projects
  • Healthcare engineers
  • Construction project managers
  • Infection prevention professionals

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the importance of conducting an infection control risk assessment (ICRA) prior to design.
  • Identify Design and Construction issues that contribute to Hospital Acquired Infections for every project.
  • Learn what Containment Tools are available and see a Demonstration of their use.
  • List the different components of a water system that contribute to waterborne pathogens.
  • Describe best practices for design and construction of water systems.
  • Explain the intent of the various preconstruction and construction compliance standards.

This event includes lunch and is free to Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE) members, $350 for non-member healthcare facility staff, and $350 for non-member suppliers. Note that ISHE membership is a fraction of these costs: just $50 for healthcare facility engineers/employees and $200 for associate/supplier members (includes up to 3 individuals per associate member company). If you are not yet an ISHE member, we recommend that you first join ISHE first at https://isheweb.wildapricot.org/page-18082 and get all of the benefits of membership, including free registration for this event!
